Your Legacy Makes Our Light Shine Brighter
On Chanukah, as we gather with family to light the menorah, we also think about the legacy we wish to leave behind for our children, grandchildren and the generations to come. For Vladimir Bagriy, 67, this legacy will be the rich Chanukah traditions he found so meaningful as a child. When Bagriy closes his eyes, he can still remember what Chanukah was like as a young boy in rural Ukraine.
“In the kitchen, my grandmother made fried latkes and donuts,” Bagriy recalls. “And each night, the adults sang Chanukah songs while the children played dreidel. Today, my family continues these traditions, and I pass on what was given to me.” Like so many, Bagriy lost nearly everything when the Soviet Union collapsed, and he depends on the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) for food, medicine and other basic necessities. Because of generous people like you, Bagriy can now lead a dignified life, and leave behind something meaningful of his own.
“Chanukah gives us hope for the future, no matter how old we are,” Bagriy says. “But JDC makes this hope a reality each and every day. They remind us that we’re not alone, and that we’re part of a large Jewish family.”
This Chanukah, make your legacy last forever with a planned gift to JDC. For Bagriy and the tens of thousands of Jews who depend on us each day, your gift can fill their Chanukah with light, celebration and hope for the future.
