Simply looking at Stuart Kurlander’s resume provides a hearty snapshot of how deeply he cares for those around him. A nationally recognized leader in health care law and the Global Co-Chair of the Israel practice at Latham & Watkins LLP, Stuart has always considered community service a very high priority.

Following in his family’s long history of involvement with Israel and the Jewish community, Stuart has made caring for Jews in need—whether they be local, in Israel or around the world—a core expression of his values. His prolific leadership and longstanding service in a variety of volunteer organizations have been at the cornerstone of his commitment to Jewish life.

Championing Inclusion

As a member of both the Jewish and LGBTQ communities, Stuart has always been passionate about creating an inclusive place for everyone within the global Jewish family—both at home and abroad.

Those ideals aren’t projected to wane—instead, they will be a greater part of the Jewish world of the next generation. Making a legacy gift to JDC to ensure that we will always be of service to every Jew around the world was an important decision for Stuart and his long-time partner, David Martin.

Changing the Future

Stuart’s long history of Jewish advocacy, engagement, consensus building and leadership represents the kind of legacy he wants to leave behind for generations to come: “I want to ensure a network of support and connection for everyone in our community who wants to build bridges to the broader community, whether they be LGBTQ Jews, interfaith families, Jews of color, Jews with disabilities or simply Jews in need, no matter who or where they are,” Stuart said.

In thinking about the future of JDC and Jewish communities around the world, he was moved to make a legacy gift to ensure that all Jews have an opportunity to participate fully in the broader Jewish community. Of his commitment to JDC, he shared, “I can think of no better organization to help fulfill this extremely important mission.” Stuart has always been passionate about creating an inclusive place for everyone.
